Lebeau and Joe's Signature CBD RSO is made by taking our organically grown strains of high CBD hemp flower and creating a potent extract by stripping all cannabinoids and terpenes into an oil state.
We start by using hand and machine trimmed flowers that are cleaned of all leaf and stem materials and processed down to popcorn sized buds. We then freeze this cleaned flower material as well as the food grade ethanol that is used for extraction. Freezing the flower and ethanol help block the chlorophyl and other unwanted material from getting into the oil. We then place the flower in a sterilized container with the freezing ethanol and stir for about a minute or two then strained(with a method known as quick wash ethanol extraction or QWET). This wash is strained through two fine micron filters to remove any large matter that would create a bitter tasting oil.
The next steps involve removing the majority of the alcohol by heating the wash using an alcohol still that allows us to be efficient and recapture most of the alcohol. We then pour the remaining oil into a stainless steel container and apply heat to finish the decarboxylation*and remove any remaining water and/or ethanol.
The final product is an amber honey-like oil that we suction into an applicator and apply to our products for your consumption!
*Decarboxylation (decarb) - the process of heating cannabinoids to convert them from inactive chemical compounds to their active state. This is the same chemical reaction as when you apply flame to flower for inhalation/smoking.
